Conspiracy Theory Thursday - Sports Edition

January 11th, 2007 by NextRound

Cal v. KostnerRecently, the NextRound research team stumbled across an interesting blog that outlines three different sports conspiracy theories discussed at an ESPN dinner. Two we were aware of, one we weren’t.

  • The Common Theory: MJ’s early retirement/minor league baseball stint was actually a one year suspension from the NBA issued by David Stern as punishment for MJ’s excessive gaming habits.
  • The One Some Have Heard: During the home stretch of Cal Ripken Jr.’s streak, Cal caught his wife with another dude, beat the living crap out of the guy, and the Orioles were forced to fake a stadium power outage in order to get Cal out of jail and to the stadium in time to keep the streak alive. The blogger claims the dude with Cal’s wife was the gardener, but the way Booth heard it, the dude was actually Kevin Costner. Whoa…Congrats on the HOF election Cal!
  • The One We Had Never Heard: Since we’d never heard this one and we don’t steal people’s thunder, we’ll send you to the blog that introduced it to us. Let’s just say it involves Phil Mickelson, multinational corporations, and illegitimate children.
