The Weekend Recap: Lebron Is A Big Fan Of Eastern Europe
June 4th, 2007 by NextRound

One of the better NBA scenes you’ll find unfolded in Cleveland Saturday night as the Cavs won the Eastern Conference for the first time. It was the kind of thing that makes you think the NBA could actually achieve NFL-level successful. But then you remember the NBA regular season.
Since you’re probably already sick of hearing a bunch of different opinions and analysis of the Cavs’ win, the upcoming finals, and Lebron’s legacy, we thought we’d do what we always do and just ramble about the one thing that stuck out to us.
Did anybody else think it was weird as shit odd that Lebron’s go to person after the big win was Zydrunas Ilgauskas? We always figured the two were fairly copacetic (we’ve seen some genuine high fives and ass pats exchanged between the two), but if you asked us to rank Bron Bron’s go to person for an emotional, post-game embrace, Zydrunas may have come in several spots below Rasheed Wallace, who was still dropping f-bombs in the visitor’s locker room at the time, and Usher, who spent the entire series sitting courtside trying to get Lebron to point at him after a big play.
But there it was, immediately after the buzzer sounded, Lebron and Zydrunas, eye contact, running embrace, genuine emotion, a hug lasting so long it bordered on uncomfortable to the homophobic, a Malone-Stockton-esque sort of moment.
There are just so many questions with so few answers. Are a 32 year old Lithuanian center and the NBA savior who is four years out of high school best friends? Do they vacation together? Does Lebron give Zydrunas a call when he needs to vent about what a lameass Usher is? Does Zydrunas just keep it more real than say Donyell Marshall or Larry Hughes? Is befriending Lithuanians a logical step in becoming the Global Icon? Is Yao in Lebron’s Five?
Dammit, we need answers.
