We Play GM: The Milwaukee Bucks
June 11th, 2007 by NextRound
Now that the NBA playoffs are unofficially over, we can really focus on the NBA draft.
The Milwaukee Bucks have the 6th overall pick.
A couple things about this roster we just don’t understand:
1) Bobby Simmons makes over 8 million dollars. (If you are thinking who the hell is Bobby Simmons, you are not alone). Even worse, he is not a free agent this summer.
2) Dan Gadzuric and Brian Skinner make over 5 million dollars. (SEE # 1)
A couple of things we like about this roster:
1) Michael Redd can flat out score, he averaged over 26 per game last year.
2) Andrew Bogut has potential to develop into a good all around center.
3) Charlie Villanueva played really well as a rookie. If he can return to his rookie form, the Bucks have a young, versatile PF that fits in well with there other pieces.
4) Ruben Patterson’s 6 million dollar plus salary comes off the books this summer.
5) Earl Boykins 3 million dollar salary comes off the books this summer.
What does this team need at the #6 pick? The Bucks need another contributor. They need a guy who can take some of the scoring pressure off Michael Redd. They need a guy who can provide versatility by slashing to the basket and creating some open shots for Redd. They also need a defensive stopper.
The Bucks should go with Corey Brewer with the #6 pick; he is the only player in this year’s draft that can provide any team with a true stopper on defense as well as a viable scoring option as a rookie.
We don’t expect the Bucks to be to active in free agency because of the crappy contracts we mentioned earlier. But if they did decide to make a move they should consider Jeff McGinnis to help solidify the PG position. They could probably get him for 4 million and he would give them some veteran depth.
Our prediction: The Bucks go with Brewer and pretty much stick with all the other pieces they already have next season. This makes sense since they have a young developing team with some cap space freeing up after next season. There is no need for them to overspend on free agents this summer.

Bowl Picks:
Overall Record: 9-11 (3 Unit), 8-6 (2 Unit), 7-1 (1 Unit), -2.7 Units
