Happily Hungover: How To Race A Racehorse
September 18th, 2007 by Booth
We bought a Racehorse - Now we get to Race!
If you have not read How to Buy a Racehorse and are unfamiliar with Team Cool & Tough’s equestrian ventures, it’s worth your time to check out the backstory.
We told you how we bought a horse, but there are still a lot of things to be answered. Questions like…
1) Which Horse Did We Buy?
After much deliberation we settled on filly named Palace on a Lake.
2) Why Palace on a Lake?
Well, one of the primary reasons is we were looking for a horse that had a certain gentleman’s club ring to it. A filly we can call “Palace” seems to do the trick.
Also, Palace is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin. This guy is a legend in the horse racing community. A few years ago the Sheik of Dubai decided that he wanted to once again make horse racing the sport of kings, so he hired McLaughlin to move to Dubai and train his horses.
We’re certain we are waaaay more awesome than some Sheik with unlimited money, women, and power, who rules an entire country, but we felt that if McLaughlin is good enough for the Sheik, he at least has an outside chance of living up to our standards.
3) When Does Palace Actually Race?
This Sunday, September 23rd at Belmont Park. JB and I will be in Long Island to watch Palace make her debut. She’ll be competing in a 5 ½ furlong, one turn race.
She may not win, but we can guarantee there will be a couple of overzealous and inebriated newly established horse owners yelling profanities and hitting on chicks that wear too much hairspray.
4) Can I Watch Palace Run? (Because I still don’t believe you guys own a horse)
Here are your options:
a) Dish Network channel 405 – part of the standard package.
b) DirecTV – upgrade your package to include TVG.
c) Youbet.com – if you open an account you can watch the races live on the internet.
d) RaceReplays.com – you can use the following login and password to watch the race about 5-10 minutes after it happens.
Login: congie@westpointtb.com
Password: westpoint
5) What Time Is the Race?
In the world of horse racing nothing is set in stone. On Friday afternoon, there will be a drawing for poll positions and start times. If you want to find the definite times check out www.drf.com on Sunday morning.
6) Where Can I Bet on Palace?
All major online gaming sites have racebooks. Click on the Sportsbook ads here and go to “Racebook” if you’d like to put some sweet action on our horse.
So there you have it. Cool & Tough Racing’s rise to power in the world of horse racing has begun. Sheiks and mojito-drinking bitches beware.

I have been in the racing game for a yr now., it is great!! However, under #5 above., it should read POST positions, not POLL positions.

I apologize for the slip up & I will take my ridicule like a man.
