NextRound Fall TV Preview: Weekend Nights
September 24th, 2007 by NextRound
Previous Previews: Mondays | Tuesdays | Wednesdays | Thursdays
Seeing that you should spend your weekends drinking beers, watching football, and making questionable social decisions, we’re going to breeze through the weekend nights and let you know if there is anything you should Tivo that’s worth a watch later. That goes for Sunday as well. Only chicks with compromised morals hang out in bars on Sundays. And you remember what Baldwin taught us:
A. Always. B. Be. C. Closing. Always be closing.
Friday 9:00 PM
What to Tivo: “Friday Night Lights” (NBC). The only television show that should even be on your radar on Friday nights. And by radar we mean you recording it and watching it on Saturday or Sunday morning when you’re hungover and feeling like being a bit of a perv (hot chicks in cheerleading outfits) but not really (the two with the most talent are both in their 20s).
“Friday Night Lights” was a pleasant surprise last year. Just a really well-written and well-produced show. And despite lackluster ratings, NBC did the honorable thing and brought it back for another season. The caveat, of course, is that it’s now on Friday nights. Our only concern is writers keeping things fresh since they ran through about ever plotline imaginable last season. But until proven otherwise, the show gets the benefit of the doubt.
Saturday
You watch College Football on Saturdays.
Sunday
With no new shows worth mentioning, Sunday evenings should be dedicated to knowing what you’re going to get. We recommend Dual Tivo Action between A) “Sunday Night Football” (NBC, 8PM) and B) “The Simpsons” (FOX, 8PM), “Family Guy” (FOX, 8:30PM), and C) “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (HBO, 9PM).
Use your own best judgment when it comes to balance between football and the other three. We don’t consider either “The Simpsons”, “Family Guy”, or “Curb Your Enthusiasm” must watches anymore. In fact, we were extremely close to blacklisting “Curb” last season. But thanks to a strong showing so far this season along with Cheryl Hines’s continued ability to be asking for it at all times, it remains on our radar.
Tonight marks the official night Fall TV returns, so remember what we’ve taught you. Good luck out there.
