What’s The Deal With Attractive Teachers In Teacher-Student Sex Scandals?
December 8th, 2008 byLast week news broke of the latest teacher-student sex scandal, this one involving a 35 year-old drama teacher in New Jersey and her 17Â year-old student.
There are several key issues at the root of this story that would be interesting to debate. Things like: whether drama teachers are low hanging fruit or to what degree society should judge someone for banging a 17 year-old. But we want to get down to the most intriguing aspect of this whole student-teacher phenomenon: the relative youth and attractiveness of these teachers.
Intuitively you’d assume that a female teacher interested in taking advantage of a high school student would be old and gross. But instead, in a lot of cases — like this one in New Jersey and the one in Florida — they’re relatively attractive. We feel safe in saying every member of Team Cool & Tough would be willing to walk across the street to catch a lift to Poundtown.
The 17 year-old kid in New Jersey was pretty much living a season of the O.C. Except with more skeeball. Maybe instead of hauling the teacher to jail Jersey officials should just consider giving that kid a slap on the back or key to the city or something.
Bottom line: We need answers. Why does this scenario play out with such regularity? And why we weren’t made aware of it in the 9th grade?
