The Barkley Fallout We Didn’t See Coming
January 13th, 2009 by
We enjoyed Charles Barkley’s recent run-in with the law as much as anyone. You simply can’t come across enough stories involving the spectacular blowjob defense. But what we failed to take into consideration at the time was the inevitable fallout. Sure, we figured there would be some hand slapping but nothing that would affect directly and therefore actually matter. Talk about a dose of reality.
The repercussions of Barkley’s bad decision making have hit us where it hurts most: our television. In addition to his hiatus from TNT — which has rendered TNT NBA telecasts almost entirely unwatchable — T-Mobile has now pulled all their ads featuring Barkley. Next thing you know the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead is going to quit serving him. What are we supposed to do on a Friday night if we can’t discuss heading over to the Ritz to grab a beer with Sir Charles and then not having the balls to follow through with it?
We guess the lesson here is that no matter how funny a story about an NBA personality discussing the best blowjob he ever had with a police officer is, you shouldn’t get too excited about it because the fallout afterwards is going to suck something awful.
Other potential lessons include: A) Never party with Urkel, B) Appreciate kick ass lines like, “And that’s why I don’t eat shrimp” when you have them, or C) Never steal work from Catherine Zeta-Jones because she has the Scottsdale police in her back pocket.
