Jackie Chan Is Your 21st Century Mr. Miyagi
January 14th, 2009 bySince no one in Hollywood is remaking 80’s movies Columbia has decided to buck the trend and develop a remake of The Karate Kid. Jackie Chan is already in negotiations to star in the Mr. Miyagi role.
If the whole thing sounds like a really bad idea, let us quell your fears. First off, Will Smith is producing and his ten year-old son, Jaden, is set to star in the Ralph Macchio role. If Hollywood has taught us anything it’s that nepotism breeds greatness. That and that ten year-old black kids are the new seventeen year-old Italian kids. And if the Will Smith angle isn’t enough to get you to sign on, the dude set to direct also directed Agent Cody Burns AND The Pink Panther 2. Talk about a pedigree.
Of course, we do have a few questions. Stuff like:
- Will Mr. Miyagi lose any of his novelty when the actor who plays him doesn’t have to fake an accent?
- How do you fill the Elisabeth Shue eye candy role when Daniel-san isn’t even in high school? We do have a limit to what jail bait does it for us.
- Is there any actor out there who can match William Zabka’s intensity level?
- Will Mickey Rourke have room in his schedule to take on the role of the Cobra Kai master when he’s asked?
- Do they sell those skeleton costumes at Wal-Mart?
The answers to these and many other questions can’t get here soon enough.
