John Hughes passed away yesterday and it got us to thinking about how his name is synonymous with movies like The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles when he really should be remembered for several far awesomer films. These five in particular.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Dude wrote and directed Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and yet when people think of him they think Molly Ringwald. What a shame.
Uncle Buck
Hughes also wrote and directed Uncle Buck, quite possibly John Candy’s most underrated role. It hurts to think that Hughes, Candy, and young Macaulay Culkin are no longer with us.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Another classic Hughes wrote and directed. “My dogs are barking today.”
The Great Outdoors
Written by Hughes. By now you should start to realize that Hughes and Candy were a Voltron of 80′s comedy awesomeness.
Christmas Vacation
That it took John Hughes’s untimely death for us to realize he wrote all three of the good Vacation movies is something we will not easily forgive ourselves for.
And yes, he did also rock an 80′s mullet on set. He will be fondly remembered for that as well.
