In case you’re unaware, we’ve been doing some serious traveling over the last two weeks. We’ve done our best to actively update the site but the content has had some glaring holes. We’ve decided it would be in everyone’s best interests if we take the remainder of this week off and come back strong on Monday. We’re going to be severely out of pocket through the weekend and there’s just no way for us to put together quality content over the next few days. We refuse to send a bunch of garbage your way just to say we published something. We will be posting the CFB and NFL picks on Friday.
Our apologies for the inconvenience and we promise to be fully reinvigorated on Monday. In the meantime, check out the right sidebar to see if there’s anything you may have missed. Or just randomly search phrases like “Zack Morris” or “cock sandwich” and see what you find.
We’ve got to take care of some boring technical stuff and won’t be publishing any new content for the next 24 hours. We realize for most of you this will be like not having your morning cup of coffee or not wearing a fresh pair of underwear. And for that we apologize. We recommended doing whatever necessary to get yourself by, even if that means lots and lots of daytime drinking.
Holy shit. It’s finally here. The day we no longer consider ourselves a work in progress. The day we start trying to get popular, make money, take ourselves seriously, etc., etc. It’s all falling into place. We’ve learned how to write, we have a video to pitch our application, and we finally got a fantasy sword company to advertise with us. The world is pretty much our oyster. Time to get excited.
As of today NextRound Groups are functional in a private beta setting. If you sign up for Beta (upper right sidebar) we’ll invite you into a feedback group and from there you can create your own group for you and your buddies. Things are working well but not yet 100% (hence the beta) so anticipate a bug here or there. We welcome suggestions and feedback.
Also going forward anticipate 7 to 8 posts a day of our sometimes informative, regularly entertaining content. All we ask — if you enjoy NextRound and would like to see it become even more successful — is to help us out with any of the following:
Sign up for NextRound Groups Beta. It’s all in the upper portion of the right sidebar. Watch the video and make it happen.
Email Your Friends Our Content. If you can think of anyone who might like our content quit being a shitty friend and encourage them to check it out. We make it easy. Just click “email” at the end of any article.
Forward the NextRound Groups Video. Maybe you don’t have enough friends to take advantage of NR Groups, but your little brother does. Let him know what he’s missing out on.
Send Us Content Tips. We already receive a lot of them, but we can never get too many. If you run across a funny news item, video, picture, or anything else you think we might be able to do something with, email it to us. We’ll give you credit and let everyone know how big your dong is.
Digg, Reddit, Stumble Upon, Whatever. If you use any of these content sharing applications, fire away with any of our stuff. Every little bit helps.
OK, that’s all the begging we’re capable of. Probably won’t happen again any time soon. We’ll be busy informing you of how cool and tough we are.
Stick around. Things are about to get interesting.
OK, so we’ve got some good news and bad news. The good news is that tomorrow, October 1, 2008, marks the first day we’ll consider NextRound.net the fully functional website we’ve always envisioned. The bad news is that due to the massive amount of behind the scenes work we have to get done we won’t be publishing any new content today. Devastating, we know. But it will all be worth it in the long run. Maybe.
Please visit tomorrow as we’ll be providing a massive site update and lots of fresh content. If you’re jonesing like a fiend for our commentary we recommend scanning our archives and rereading pieces you forgot about. They’ll be funny all over again!
Thanks as always for the support and we’ll see you tomorrow.
It’s been brought to our attention that we didn’t do enough marketing for our sports picks segments going into this football season. With everything else we’ve had going on (spray tans, pottery class, etc.) we just assumed the picks would take care of themselves. Well, we may have been wrong.
So far Booth is an astonishing — especially if you know him — 5 and 0 (+ 5 Units) with his college football picks. Not sure enough people realize that. And we had a lackluster amount of participation for the first week of the Search for the NFL Handicapper contest. Not sure we made it obvious enough we were starting the contest. Going forward we’ll have the “Sports Picks” section reestablished on the right sidebar and will be encouraging everyone to make both segments as interactive as possible. Also, we’re going to once again accept NFL picks via comments since we got a large amount of feedback that potential participants were scared off by the notion that their email inboxes might soon be inundated with gay porn. All despite the fact that we swore it would only be straight porn.
There’s still plenty of time to prove you’re a bigger degenerate than the rest of our audience. And there’s still plenty of time for Booth to help you win back the money you blew on lap dances. So get in there and mix it up.
Alright, that’s it. Back to making up odd facts about people we don’t know that other people we don’t know will find mildly amusing.
We’ve been going strong here for a few months now without a break, so with our plans of being awesome over Labor Day conflicting with our ability to provide new content on NextRound, we’ll be taking it light over the next couple of days, returning to full force on Tuesday. Between now and then expect a few updates like a QB ass getting mock draft, a video or two, Booth’s picks for the weekend (1-0, bitches), and the reintroduction of Slutty Miss USA into our lives.
We have several big announcements planned for next week. Really, we do. Get excited. Highlights will include the NextRound Groups private beta release, the 2008 Search for an NFL Handicapper contest, and the results of the Nugget Challenge. Just be glad Booth made his college football picks prior to his impending McDonald’s coma.
See you losers on the other side of the awesomest weekend ever.
We’d like to take a moment and apologize for last week’s lack of content. Maske moved AND got robbed, which is kind of like getting robbed twice. Booth got a job, which means he’s now putting in half the effort necessary at two different places at the same time (more on this later). And the rest of Team Cool & Tough were so traumatized by the DC Madam suicide they took the week off to mourn.
The good news is that we’ve rebounded and it’s a new week and there are plenty of made up lists and conversations and accusations to come. Get excited. (Oh, and we do plan on launching the finished site before ‘09. Swear.)
To elaborate further on Friday’s Site News we’re going to be doing a lot of behind the scenes testing and development over the next two to three weeks as we’re closing in on the full-on launch of the completed site.
Unfortunately, that’s going to limit the content we’re able to churn out over the next week or so. Please bear with us as we’re working to make NextRound as awesome as possible. We’ve even given up cut back on drinking and strip clubs in order to maximize our productivity. You know, because everyone has to make sacrifices.
We apologize for the limited content yesterday afternoon. We’ve had a few things come up and have to take a short break going into the weekend. We’ll have one Cool & Tough piece this morning, then we’ll be back full steam on Monday. You can anticipate more badassery then.
On an additional site news note, we’re still grinding it out behind the scenes developing the finished version of the site. Much like losing our virginity, it’s taking longer than anticipated, but will be totally worth it in the end. We’ll provide updates on the progress over the next few weeks and should launch shortly.
In case you haven’t noticed, we launched the new face of NextRound last night.
The new look and feel is the first phase of the fully revamped site launch. As you can see, the new home page will feature a section for teams in the upper right hand portion. When all phases of the new version are launched, this section will morph into a teams stat sheet for all logged in users. Should be really convenient and intuitive.
We’ve had some issues with our internet service and some glitches appeared with the home page switch. Please look past a few imperfections today and tomorrow as we iron everything out. At the moment, some alignments are off and comments are not generating properly. We should have this stuff fixed shortly, but if you come across anything unusual, please email us and let us know.
From here we plan to spend the upcoming weeks launching new segments, new contests, increased content, and the new, significantly improved NextRound Teams. Stick around. If anything, should be entertaining to see if we fuck it up or not.
